Fun Halloween Activities Around Lexington

The Lexington community takes Halloween fun seriously, and throughout October, there are numerous local events across the city for everyone to enjoy.

With Halloween itself just a week away, here are some fun ways to spend the last few days of the spooky season!

PumpkinMania

Where: Transylvania University (300 North Broadway)

When: October 23-27

Transylvania’s annual PumpkinMania is a beloved Halloween tradition, which draws downtown visitors and locals alike– and even national news coverage. A festival kicks off five nights of carved pumpkins complete with lights along the steps of the historic Old Morrison building– 500 of them, to be exact. During this time you’re liable to see spectators gathered around Old Mo as soon as the pumpkins are lit, and once the sun is fully set, you’ll have the perfect photo opportunity of hundreds of glowing jack-’o-lanterns.

Halloween Trunk Show

Where: Liberty Elementary (2585 Liberty Road)

When: October 29th, 10am-4pm

Besides Halloween essentials like face painting, costumes, and seasonal goodies, you’ll also find wares from local artisans and vendors at this year’s Halloween-Themed Kentucky Pop-Up. Even though Halloween may be on a Monday this year, the Halloween Trunk Show might just be the perfect addition to your pre-Halloween weekend list (because let’s be honest: if a holiday falls on a Monday, that makes all the more reason to have a blast the weekend before.) It’s a great way to buy local while celebrating the season!

Spooky SZN Trivia

Where: Tin Roof (303 South Limestone)

When: October 31st, 8 pm

Horror movies? Classic Halloween-themed songs? If you consider yourself something of a Halloween connoisseur, then you might find yourself taking home one of the prizes at Tin Roof’s Spooky SZN Trivia night. Not to mention that there will be Happy Hour specials throughout the day if you’re in need of refreshments this Halloween. Tin Roof is also hosting events for the entire week leading up to the 31st, so check out this schedule if activities like Halloween Music Bingo and Haunted House Party Silent Disco sound like a good time.

Burn The Mic: Halloween Edition

Where: Carnegie Center (251 West Second Street)

When: October 25th, 7 pm

At 7 pm on Tuesday, October 25th, the Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning will be hosting an open mic for anyone interested in sharing their poetry or other spoken-word material. The main event, however, begins at 7:30– when designer, artist, poet, and Wild Figs Books founder Ronald Davis (AKA upfromsumdirt) will be performing. If you’re interested in Davis’ work, be sure to check out his poetry collections and chapbooks, which include his books Deifying a Total Darkness and To Emit Teal.

Halloween Glow Zumba Party Class

Where: Lexington Athletic Club (3882 Mall Road)

When: October 25th, 6-7 pm

Looking for an opportunity to get active with your friends while staying in the Halloween spirit? Lexington Athletic Club will be hosting a Halloween Glow Zumba Party class, which is free to LAC members and $10 for general admission. You’ll get to dress up in your Halloween costume (provided it’s something you’re comfortable exercising in!) for the chance to win the costume contest.

Lets get to work!
