Americans eat more than 4.5 billion tacos each year, so it’s only fitting that there’s an annual holiday to celebrate them. In honor of National Taco Day on October 4, we’re sharing five must-try spots for Mexican fare and margaritas in Lexington.
Local Taco
Tex-Mex meets Southern cuisine at Local Taco. Their menu features salads, enchiladas, quesadillas, and unique taco offerings, like the Southern Fried Chicken Taco (with Buttermilk fried chicken tender strips, honey-lime mayo, lettuce, and tomato) and the Local BBQ Taco (with 12-hour smoked pork, jalapeño cole slaw, and housemade Bourbon BBQ sauce).
Agave & Rye
If you love tacos, tequila, and bourbon, Agave & Rye is the spot for you. They’re best-known for their double-shelled epic tacos made with a crunchy corn shell and a soft flour tortilla. You can even take it up a notch by adding a “love cushion” of bourbon bacon refried beans, queso, or guacamole between the two shells.
Girlsgirlsgirls Burritos
Girlsgirlsgirls serves burritos el dorado style: Flour tortillas are filled and rolled to order with house-made ingredients, then grilled to a deep golden brown. You can also order homemade tamales, quesadillas, fresh fried chips, and tacos. They offer a new student deal every month, with a current student ID.
El Gran Tako
Los Famosos Takos at El Gran Tako, all of which are served with fresh cilantro, finely chopped onions, radishes, green onions, and lime, are just $2.99 each. They’ve also got classic Mexican sandwiches called tortas, seafood offerings, burritos, and fajitas on the menu.
Papi’s Mexican Restaurant
You can choose from several taco options, including street tacos (four double stacked, soft, corn tortillas with two meats) and fish tacos (two flour tortillas with lightly breaded Swai fish, lettuce, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese), at Papi’s. They also serve handcrafted Mexican cocktails, like margaritas and palomas.
