What’s Leaving?
First up, what can you expect to say goodbye to in May? Here are just a few of the heavy hitters.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The Shawshank Redemption was nominated for multiple Academy Awards and Golden Globes, and has enjoyed a continued legendary status ever since its release in the mid-90s, thanks in large part to the talents of acting powerhouses like Morgan Freeman and Timothy Robbins. However, Netflix viewers will say goodbye to the film on May 1st, and will instead find the film on HBO Max.
The Green Mile (1999)
Also nominated for a wide array of awards, The Green Mile stars Tom Hanks and a number of other iconic actors. While it too will be leaving Netflix next month, you’ll be able to catch it on HBO Max as well.
Shrek (2001)
Alongside the original animated smash hit Shrek, its sequel Shrek 2 will be leaving Netflix at the start of May. The quintessential Dreamworks animated film that defined many a Gen Z childhood, it will be sorely missed– but can still be watched on Hulu as well as bought or rented digitally on other services.
V for Vendetta (2006)

The revered Batman film that redefined what a superhero movie could be will part ways with the streaming service at the beginning of the month. The movie will continue to be available digitally on a variety of other platforms, including Prime Video and Apple TV.

War of the Worlds (2005)

Rambo (2008)
Although it premiered twenty years after the third installment, Rambo III, 2008’s Rambo is the fourth film in the series and will be available for streaming on Netflix alongside 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood.
