What’s Coming to Streaming Platforms in 2022

Whether you watch Netflix, Hulu, or any of the newer streaming services that are popping up in every direction with their own unique libraries, you might be wondering what’s in store for streaming entertainment in the new year. Here are a few of the movie and TV highlights you can look forward to in 2022.

How I Met Your Father – Hulu, January 18th

Fans of CBS’s beloved sitcom How I Met Your Mother will be happy to know that a spinoff series is soon to be available for streaming on Hulu, which is incidentally where the original series can also be viewed in the meantime. While a TV pilot called How I Met Your Dad was produced as far back as 2014, the series the pilot would eventually evolve into– starring none other than Hillary Duff– debuts this January. While it takes inspiration from the CBS series’ format, new viewers can jump right into the narrative without prior HIMYM viewing, as How I Met Your Father is a standalone spinoff.

Ozark Season 4 – Netflix, January 21st

Netflix’s hit series Ozark, which boasts an array of Primetime Emmy Awards, will be getting a two-part final season starting this upcoming January. While not all of the details are clear yet, fans of the show will get a hefty 14-episode season, split into separate 7-episode parts. The release date for the second portion of the season has not yet been announced, but can be expected later in the year.

The Boondocks – HBO Max

The official release date for a reboot of the beloved 2000s (and 2010s) animated comedy series The Boondocks remains unclear, but viewers can expect to see the second adaptation of Aaron McGruder’s comic series release on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

She-Hulk – Disney+

Between WandaVision, Loki, and a myriad of other shows and films both old and new, Disney+ hasn’t skimped on its offerings for Marvel fans to say the least. While the exact release date is TBA, the streaming platform’s latest MCU series, She-Hulk, is set to be released in 2022. The comic adaptation will star Tatiana Maslany as the titular protagonist, and Mark Ruffalo of Avengers’ Hulk fame will also be appearing in the show.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Disney+

Also on Disney+ and existing within another of the streaming service’s beloved fictional universes is Obi-Wan Kenobi, which centers around the titular iconic Star Wars character and is making its debut in 2022. Ewan McGregor, who famously played the character in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, will be reprising his role in the series, as will Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

Knives Out 2 – Netflix

The 2019 comedic murder mystery film Knives Out proved to be a massive success upon release, gaining quite the cult following as well as rave reviews. 2022 sees Netflix releasing a successor to the hit movie, with many cast members reprising their roles including Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc. Filming for the movie finished up in September of this year, promising news for those anxious awaiting the sequel’s release.
