You have meetings, deadlines, wedding and baby showers to plan, and social life. You’re busy. You don’t have the time – or budget – for expensive gym memberships across town. But you just booked your summer beach vacation and want to be in shape for summer. Here are three ways to get in shape and stay in shape, on a time and wallet budget.
1 – Use your apartment’s gym.
It’s free. And you don’t have to drive anywhere. Especially if you’re just dipping your toes into a fitness routine, using the resources available to you is a great way to experiment and see what you enjoy doing. And since it’s close, you can start with a short amount of time and work your way up without spending more time in the car than at the gym.
Check out the equipment offered in your apartment’s gym. Take note of what is already provided and use that to research exercise plans involving that equipment. A quick google search will give you tons of options (and instructions!) for any equipment you could think of. Check out our community map to browse communities with gyms.
2 – Find a workout buddy.
Think of it like group fitness, without the fees. Making plans to meet someone makes it harder to press snooze and roll over for a few extra minutes of shut-eye. Working out with a friend can also make it easier to find variety – two heads are better than one in creating workout plans. The best part though? A built-in brunch buddy for afterward.
Can’t find a friend to gym-brunch-laundry with? Try going out for a jog with your furry friend. Or just going out for a walk around the block or dog park. Good for you, and for them!
3 – Shake things up.
Working out doesn’t have to be boring. You are more likely to stick with it if you enjoy it. Try using new equipment – just remember to read the instructions / do your homework for proper use. In warm months, maybe even switch out the treadmill for a dip in the pool!
