A Renter’s Guide to Streaming Services

Streaming services make it easy to watch your favorite shows and movies, but with so many to choose from, it can be difficult to decide what to sign up for. You (and your bank account) probably don’t need a subscription to every single platform. Here’s a rundown of what four popular streaming services have to offer to help you decide how to spend your money. (Don’t forget to take advantage of the free trial periods before committing to the fees!)

Netflix

When it comes to streaming services, Netflix is one of the most well-known platforms. The company, which started as an online DVD-rental store, has been around since 1997. Today, subscribers can watch a wide range of ever-changing movies, TV shows, and original programming. There are three subscription levels: basic, standard, and premium. With all of these plans, you can watch unlimited content. The main difference between them is how many devices you can watch Netflix on at the same time.

HBO Max

HBO Max has everything HBO offers, plus even more blockbuster movies and original programming. The service only has one subscription plan, which costs $14.99 per month and allows you to have up to five viewer profiles. Popular shows to stream on the platform include Euphoria, The Undoing, and Game of Thrones. Another perk? You’re able to stream some movies the exact same day they hit theaters at no additional cost.

Disney+

To watch beloved movies and TV shows from the likes of Marvel, National Geographic, Disney Channel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar, you’ll want to sign up for Disney+. This fairly new platform is home to classics, like the Toy Story and Star Wars movies, as well as new favorites, like The Mandalorian. You can get ad-free access to everything on Disney+for $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

Hulu

If you’re a TV  buff, Hulu is the streaming service for you. With a subscription, you’ll get access to shows on major networks, like ABC, CMT, Comedy Central, E!, and more. Subscribers are also able to watch new episodes the day after they air, as well as access current (and often past) seasons. There are also movies to stream. Hulu has a few different plans to choose from. The basic plan costs $5.99 per month, but if you want commercial-free streaming, you’ll have to pay $11.99 per month for the ad-free version.

Lets get to work!
